Hey Folks, today I am going to talk about how to make your own cuticle oil.

Do you have weak nails, dry cuticles, cracked skin? Then Cuticle oil is the solution. Cuticle oil helps treating dry cuticles, dry skin around the nails and nail strengthening. Even if you have healthy nails, you can still use this cuticle oil to moisturise your cuticles.

Let me share something about myself. I have always dreamt of strong, long nails but had weak nails that would chip and break easily. When my passion towards nail art grew, I decided to pay some attention to them.

I follow a lot of nail art channels and blogs. I see that many of the nail artists use Cuticle oil, Cuticle creams, and Nail strengtheners. I thought let me give it a shot and see if things work. When I found out the cost of Cuticle oils and creams they were pretty high. Then I thought to make something at home.

After browsing lot of videos, blogs, Google, pinterest, etc; I came up with this recipe. Here is what you’ll need –
  1. An empty washed and sanitized medicine bottle ( I used 30ml bottle)
  2. Olive Oil
  3. Castor Oil
  4. Vitamin E Oil capsules
  5. Lemon
These products promote nail growth, strength and help to keep the nails moisturised. They are easy available and less expensive that the branded Cuticle oils.

Mix equal quantities of Olive oil and Castor oil in the old medicine bottle. Add 2-3 capsules of Vitamin E Oil and 5-6 drops of lemon juice. Shake the mixture and store it away from sunlight.  Tada…your Cuticle oil is ready. Apply this oil at least once a day and you will definitely see a difference (of course not overnight J)
I apply this oil in the night and when I wake up in the morning I have nice soft cuticles.

  1. Do check if you’re allergic to any of these products and discontinue usage if irritation occurs.
  2. This is not an exact formula so it is ok to use rough measurement.
  3. You can add couple of drops of essential oil of your choice for fragrance.
Along with the Cuticle oil, I have started using a couple of other products that have promoted nail growth and strength. I use OPI Nail Envy Strengthener, Hard as Hoof Nail Strengthener and Home made Cuticle Cream. I will talk about each of these products in my future posts.
